A juice fast — days of drinking only juiced fruit and vegetables — leaves the digestive system quiet. The mistake most people make when it ends is going straight for a big plate of solid food, which the gut isn't ready for after several days without fibre or fat.
Start small. A piece of fruit you can eat whole, rather than juice it, is a reasonable first bite: an apple, a banana, or a couple of dates. Dates in particular give a fast source of energy without much digestive effort, since their fibre is soft compared to raw vegetables.
Wait an hour, then move to something cooked and simple — steamed vegetables, a small portion of rice, or a broth-based soup. Avoid dairy, fried food and anything heavily spiced for the first day back. The gut lining takes longer than a day to fully recover its usual capacity.
Protein should come back gradually too. Eggs or a small piece of fish on day two is easier to handle than a full protein-heavy meal right after the fast ends. Rushing this step is the most common reason people feel unwell after finishing a juice fast — not the fast itself, but what comes straight after it.
We supply dates by grade for exactly this kind of gradual refeeding. See our range, get sourcing details on About Us, or reach us through Contact Us.
