This guide sorts wholesale dates prices in Malaysia by where the dates come from. All the figures are October 2026 prices from one Malaysian date wholesaler's list, checked on 24 October 2026. They are a reference for that month and no more. Prices and stock move from week to week, so get a fresh quote before you order anything.
Malaysia has no commercial date-growing trade, and every date sold here is imported. On a wholesale list that means every date comes from somewhere else, and the varieties in this guide come from Iran, Saudi Arabia, Palestine, or Tunisia and Algeria. Grouping the list that way shows a few things a long product list hides.
The list by origin at a glance
The table counts every listing of each variety on the list, then gives the lowest and highest price per kilo among the listings that were in stock on the check date.

Iranian dates: Mariami in stock, rotab not
Mariami is a dark, semi-dry, chewy date from Iran. It also had the lowest price per kilo of any date in stock on the check date, the Mariami A Normal 5kg carton at RM75, which is RM15 a kilo. The Mariami AA 5kg was RM129 (RM25.80 a kilo) and the Mariami AAA VIP 5kg was RM148 (RM29.60 a kilo). Five other Mariami listings were out of stock, among them a Mariami A no.2 5kg at RM68 and a Mariami Jumbo Premium box of 12 × 500g at RM235.
Mazafati comes from Bam in Kerman province. It is very soft and dark, it needs refrigeration, and because it is cold-stored it is sold all year. The one Rotab Mazafati AAA listing, 12 packets of 600g at RM86, was simply out of stock that day. A separate listing named Rotab BAM AAA (12 × 600g, RM88) was out of stock too.
Saudi dates: the widest spread
Safawi and Ajwa both come from the Madinah area, and between them they make up 22 of the list's lines. Safawi is longer than Ajwa, dark brown to black, soft and chewy. Ajwa is small, roundish and near-black with finely wrinkled skin, and in Malaysia it is also sold as "Kurma Nabi".
Origin alone does not fix the price here. The cheapest in-stock Safawi carton cost RM16 a kilo and the 1kg Safawi AAA Jumbo cost RM45, so the same variety from the same region spans almost three times over once grade and pack size change. In-stock Ajwa ran from RM23 a kilo for the Premium A No.1 (Small) 5kg to RM44 for the 1kg AAA VIP (Large). Eight of the thirteen Ajwa listings were out of stock, including the Ajwa Premium XL Super Jumbo 5kg (RM370) and the Ajwa Premium VVIP Jumbo 5kg (RM215).
Mabroom, a long, slender, reddish-brown date from the Madinah region, had a single listing: Mabroom Madinah AA 5kg at RM230, out of stock. Sukari from Al-Qassim is golden-amber and very sweet. Its one listing, a 3kg pack of Rotab Sukkary Premium at RM63 (RM21 a kilo), was in stock.
Palestinian Medjool: the top of the list
Medjool is a large, very soft date with a rich caramel taste, and the Medjool on this list is labelled as from Palestine. Every in-stock Medjool listing cost more per kilo than any other date in stock, from RM56 a kilo for the Premium Jumbo 5kg (RM280) to RM77.78 a kilo for a single 900g Jumbo box (RM70). The Super Jumbo 5kg was RM315, or RM63 a kilo. All three Medjool Large listings were out of stock. This site has a separate post on Medjool from Palestine and Iranian dates if you want to read about the two side by side.
North African Deglet Noor: one line in stock
Deglet Noor comes from Tunisia and Algeria. Sold on the stem in Malaysia it is called kurma tangkai, and this list writes "bertangkai". Ten Deglet Noor listings were on the list and only one was in stock: 12 packets of 400g, bertangkai, at RM88, or RM18.33 a kilo. The loose 5kg cartons and the 20 × 250g and 30 × 227g packs were all out of stock on the check date.
What the origin view tells a buyer
The gap from the cheapest in-stock date to the dearest was large. Mariami A Normal at RM15 a kilo against the 900g Medjool box at RM77.78 a kilo is a difference of more than five times. Inside a single variety, grade and pack size still moved the price a long way, as the Safawi figures show.
Grades such as A, AA, AAA and Jumbo are each importer's own size sorting, not an international standard, so an AA on one list is not automatically the same fruit as an AA on another. Compare per-kilo prices within one list first, then ask a second seller to quote the same variety and pack weight.
Demand peaks before and during Ramadan, with Hari Raya, weddings, kenduri and umrah gifts as other busy times. If you are buying for one of those, check prices and stock near the date instead of relying on October figures.
