Embrace Convenience with Buying Fresh Dates Fruit Online in Malaysia

Why Iranian dates suit an online order

Four Iranian varieties are traded in Malaysia under their own names: Mazafati, Mariami, Piarom and Sayer. Malaysia has no commercial date-growing trade, and every date sold here is imported, so the name and origin printed on a listing are the main things you have to go on. The four names are easy to confuse. An online listing gives you time to read the name, check the origin and message the seller before you pay, which is hard to do at a crowded counter in the week before Ramadan.

The four names to know

Mazafati, often sold as Rotab Mazafati Bam or kurma madu, comes from Bam in Kerman province. It is dark, very soft and high in moisture, and it needs refrigeration. It is cold-stored and sold year-round, so a rotab Mazafati listing in any month of the year is normal.

Mariami is an Iranian date that is dark, semi-dry and chewy. Piarom is a separate variety, grown in Hormozgan, dark and semi-dry with a thin skin. Some listings carry both names together, as in "Mariami Piarom". When you see that, ask the seller which fruit is in the box.

Sayer, also traded as Stamaran, is from Khuzestan. It is amber-brown and semi-dry.

The ripeness words on a listing tell you the texture. Rutab, or rotab, is the soft, fresh-ripe stage; tamr, or tamar, is fully ripe and drier.

Comparing prices between listings

Pack sizes differ from one seller to the next, so the sticker price alone tells you little. Divide the price by the net weight to get a per-kilo figure, then compare. Grade labels such as A, AA, AAA and Jumbo are each importer's own size sorting, not an international standard. Two boxes marked "AA" by different importers can hold fruit of different sizes.

Compare like with like as well. Soft rotab Mazafati and semi-dry Piarom are different fruit, so a price gap between them says nothing about which seller is cheaper.

Planning a Mazafati delivery

Because Mazafati needs refrigeration, plan the order around the delivery. Pick a day when someone will be home to take the parcel. Move the box into the fridge as soon as it arrives, and check that the label names the variety and weight you paid for.

Adding dates from other origins

An order doesn't have to stop at Iran. Medjool dates originated in Morocco and are large, very soft and caramel-sweet. Ajwa is from Madinah in Saudi Arabia, small and near-black. Deglet Noor, sold on the stem in Malaysia as kurma tangkai, comes from Tunisia or Algeria. The post comparing Palestine Medjool with Iranian dates sets their textures side by side if you are choosing between them.

Festive and bulk orders

Demand peaks before and during Ramadan, with further peaks around Hari Raya, wedding hantaran, kenduri and umrah gifts. Ordering a few weeks ahead keeps you clear of that rush. An older post on this site, filed under Dates Wholesaler Malaysia, covers wholesale buying in general terms; read it with the variety and origin notes above in mind.

Questions about stock or a larger quantity can go to the seller first. This site takes enquiries on WhatsApp, as its Contact Us page says.

Read the variety name, confirm the origin, work out the per-kilo price and keep the fridge ready for Mazafati. That is most of what buying Iranian dates online in Malaysia asks of you, and it can all be done from home.
