Harga Kurma Malaysia: the Best Date Variety in Malaysia

Kurma Mariami Malaysia

What "Harga Kurma Malaysia" actually means

Harga Kurma Malaysia is simply the price Malaysian buyers pay for dates, and that price moves for reasons most shoppers never see. Import route matters: dates landing via Jeddah or Dubai carry different freight costs than a direct Iran-to-Port Klang shipment. Grade matters more — a Gred AAA carton is sorted for size and skin condition and costs more per kilogram than a mixed-grade carton, though the exact gap varies by supplier and season. Ramadan demand adds another layer: Ajwa and Safawi both see tighter supply as the fasting month approaches, with pricing easing again once the season passes.

If you're buying to resell, ask your supplier for the grade breakdown before you ask for the total. A distributor quoting one flat number per box is usually blending grades, which makes it hard to compare against a second quote.

Reading a date variety beyond the name on the box

"Best" depends on what the date is for, not a single ranking. A few varieties that move through the Malaysian market regularly:

Ajwa

Grown around Madinah, small to medium, near-black skin, soft flesh with a caramel note and a light bitterness at the finish. Sold mostly in premium gift sets and for Ramadan iftar, priced accordingly.

Safawi

Also from the Madinah region, dark brown to near-black skin with thick, soft flesh and a milder, less bitter sweetness than Ajwa — a common substitute when Ajwa supply tightens ahead of Ramadan.

Mariami

An Iranian variety — longer, lighter brown, noticeably softer flesh. Works well pitted and stuffed because the skin doesn't tear as easily as Ajwa's. Buyers sourcing in bulk often pick Mariami for its price-to-volume ratio against Medjool.

Medjool

Large, glossy, very sweet, usually the most expensive per kilogram of the four. Sold individually or in small boxes rather than by the carton, since the size makes it a snacking date first.

What actually changes the price you pay

- Carton size and origin freight cost
- Grading consistency (mixed grade vs. sorted)
- Season — pre-Ramadan pricing is not year-round pricing
- Packaging — loose carton vs. retail box with tray inserts
- Whether you're buying at wholesale volume or retail unit

For current wholesale pricing by grade, see our Medjool date price breakdown and the Ajwa borong guide for carton pricing by grade.

Buying dates in Malaysia: a short checklist

Ask for the grade in writing, not just verbally. Check the harvest year printed on the carton where available — dates don't spoil the way fresh fruit does, but flavour does flatten after 18-24 months in poor storage. Compare price per kilogram, not price per carton, since carton sizes vary between 1kg, 5kg and 10kg formats. And if a price looks unusually low for Ajwa or Medjool in the weeks before Ramadan, ask which grade it is before assuming it's a deal.
